Cookie Policy & Terminal Storage
Last Updated: October 2026
Welcome to Christmas Timer (christmastimer.com). We value your privacy, user autonomy, and transparency. This Cookie Policy explains how cookies, local browser storage, and related terminal technologies are used on our website in compliance with statutory digital privacy standards (including § 25 TDDDG and the GDPR).
1. What Are Cookies and HTML5 Local Storage?
Cookies are small text files placed on your computer or mobile device when you load web pages. Modern web applications also use HTML5 Local Storage (localStorage), which allows websites to store configuration settings directly within your browser without transmitting them across the network on every HTTP request.
2. Storage Classification & Legal Grounds (§ 25 TDDDG)
In accordance with statutory telecommunications and digital services data protection regulations (§ 25 TDDDG), storage technologies on christmastimer.com are classified as follows:
A. Strictly Necessary Functional Storage (§ 25 Abs. 2 Nr. 2 TDDDG)
These client-side entries are technically required to provide the festive services and features explicitly requested by you. They do not track you across other websites, do not profile your behavior, and are never sent to third-party marketing servers:
- Fireplace Ambience Toggle: Remembers your crackling fireplace sound preference (on/off) and audio volume level across pages.
- Advent Calendar Progress: Stores the numbers of the Advent Calendar doors you have unlocked so you never lose your December surprises upon page refresh.
- Letter to Santa Wishlist: Keeps your drafted letter safely within your device's browser memory so you can edit or seal it without server retention.
- Language & Display Settings: Saves your selected interface language and UI accessibility choices.
- Music Favorites & Queue: Preserves your holiday playlist favorites and shuffled track queue.
Under statutory legislation (§ 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG), user consent is not required for storage items that are strictly necessary to deliver a digital service requested by the user.
B. Third-Party Embedded Media Technologies
When you choose to engage with embedded third-party media players, those providers may set cookies or access browser storage pursuant to their own privacy policies:
- Spotify Web Playback SDK: When you voluntarily log in to play full songs through Spotify Premium, Spotify AB sets authentication and session management cookies necessary to verify your subscription and stream audio directly from Spotify servers. Governed by Spotify's Privacy Policy.
- YouTube Video Trailers: Embedded movie trailers and holiday music videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain (
youtube-nocookie.com), which blocks tracking cookies from being placed until you actively start playback.
3. Zero Advertising or Tracking Cookies
Christmas Timer does not deploy third-party advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, pixel tags, or commercial tracking beacons. We do not sell or monetize browsing behavior.
4. Managing and Disabling Browser Storage
You maintain full control over cookies and local storage. You can configure your browser to notify you when cookies are placed, block third-party cookies, or clear all browsing data upon closing the browser:
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data.
- Google Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies > Clear browsing data.
- Apple Safari: Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data > Remove All.
- Microsoft Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies.
Note: Clearing HTML5 Local Storage will reset your opened Advent Calendar doors and sound settings to their default states.
